Corrosion-Resistant PCB for 2000-Hour Outdoor Operation of Robots

Time:2026-06-04 Views:66

Outdoor operating robots such as inspection robots, agricultural robots and outdoor logistics robots face harsh and complex environmental conditions including humidity, rainwater, salt fog, dust and ultraviolet radiation, which put forward strict 2000-hour long-term corrosion resistance requirements for PCBs. Unlike indoor industrial PCBs, outdoor robot PCBs need to resist comprehensive electrochemical corrosion and environmental aging, ensuring stable electrical performance and structural integrity after 2000 hours of continuous outdoor exposure. The core corrosion resistance design focuses on substrate material optimization and surface protection treatment. High-grade anti-corrosion substrates with low water absorption and high chemical stability are selected to prevent substrate delamination, mildew and performance degradation caused by long-term moisture absorption in humid outdoor environments. At the same time, ultra-thick tin-lead alloy or gold-plated surface treatment processes are adopted for PCB pads and conductive lines to isolate air, moisture and corrosive media.

Salt fog corrosion resistance and humidity aging resistance are the core assessment indicators of 2000-hour outdoor corrosion-resistant PCBs for robots. Coastal, suburban and industrial outdoor environments contain a large number of salt fog, acid and alkali dust and corrosive gases, which easily cause electrochemical corrosion of PCB copper circuits, pad oxidation and line short circuit. Qualified outdoor robot PCBs need to pass 2000-hour continuous salt spray and damp heat aging tests, with no copper exposure, corrosion spots, line breakage and resistance drift on the board surface. The PCB manufacturing process adds a high-performance solder mask ink layer with strong adhesion and corrosion resistance, which can effectively resist ultraviolet aging and chemical erosion, and avoid solder mask peeling and fading caused by long-term outdoor sunlight exposure. In addition, the edge sealing and hole sealing processes are optimized to prevent corrosive media from penetrating into the board layer through tiny gaps and via holes, realizing full-board closed anti-corrosion protection.

Long-term operational stability under alternating outdoor temperatures is an important part of 2000-hour corrosion resistance performance. The outdoor working environment of robots has obvious temperature differences between day and night and seasonal alternation, and the alternating cold and hot environment easily causes thermal expansion and contraction of PCB materials, leading to protective layer cracking and accelerated corrosion. The optimized corrosion-resistant PCB adopts low thermal expansion coefficient substrate materials and high-toughness solder mask materials, which can maintain intact protective structure and stable electrical performance after 2000 hours of alternating temperature cycle tests. Moreover, the circuit layout avoids sharp corners and dense wiring areas that are prone to corrosion accumulation, and the modular anti-corrosion design is matched with robot outdoor sealing structures. This comprehensive design ensures that the PCB can continuously and stably support the power supply, signal transmission and sensor operation of outdoor robots, reducing equipment failure rate and maintenance cost in long-term outdoor operation.
