Waterproof Grade PCBA

Time:2026-03-14 Views:1

Waterproof grade PCBA is a specialized type of printed circuit board assembly designed to resist water ingress and maintain stable performance in wet or submerged environments. Its protection level is defined by the IP (Ingress Protection) rating system, with common grades including IP67 (submersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes) and IP68 (long-term submersion in deep water), depending on the application requirements. Unlike ordinary PCBA, waterproof grade PCBA adopts a combination of structural design, protective materials, and advanced manufacturing processes to form a reliable barrier against water and moisture.

The key technologies for achieving waterproof performance include conformal coatings (such as acrylic, silicone, or parylene), potting with epoxy or polyurethane materials, and sealed enclosures with high-quality gaskets (e.g., EPDM or FVMQ rubber). Conformal coatings form a thin, transparent film that covers the entire PCB surface, preventing water from contacting electronic components, while potting fully encapsulates the PCBA to provide comprehensive protection in extreme environments. Additionally, waterproof PCBA design must consider factors such as creepage distance and clearance to avoid short circuits caused by moisture, and interface connectors (e.g., M12 IP68 connectors) must be specially sealed to prevent water ingress.

Waterproof grade PCBA is widely used in industries such as marine electronics, outdoor lighting, automotive sensors, medical devices, and water treatment equipment. For example, in water treatment facilities, waterproof PCBA ensures the reliable operation of sensors and controllers exposed to high humidity and corrosive chemicals. In outdoor applications, it protects electronic systems from rain, dew, and accidental submersion, extending product lifespan and reducing maintenance costs. The selection of waterproof grade should be based on the specific application environment, avoiding over-protection to control costs while ensuring sufficient reliability.
